Dr. Garrow treats foot and ankle problems such as heel pain, diabetic complications and bunions.

Dermagraft

Diabetic foot ulcers are a serious risk. Not only are they painfully debilitating, but they are also the leading cause for amputations of the foot and ankle. Step Ahead Podiatry is one of only two locations in Brevard County to offer Dermagraft, a manufactured dermal substitute used to encourage rapid healing of chronic foot ulcers. Dr. Garrow is able to heal diabetic foot ulcers more quickly and more effectively than traditional methods. Quick and effective treatment of diabetic foot ulcers has many benefits, including a faster return to job and recreational activities, a decreased risk for amputation, an improvement to overall health by decreasing metabolic demands, and a reduction in the total cost of health care.

During its clinical trial, patients treated with Dermagraft were 1.7 times more likely to heal than the control group at any given time. Dermagraft does not suffer from rejection risks and is continually and extensively tested for viruses, retroviruses and tumorigenicity, making Dermagraft safer than both allografts (genetically non-identical human tissue) and autografts (tissue transplanted from one site to another on the same patient).
